Hi! I’m Jamie and I am thrilled to be a Create Art Academy Teen Creative Coach!

Are you a teen or parent of a teen who is so creative and talented but sometimes feels like they have to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders? I see you,  I hear you, and I was born to serve you. Do you know why? Because I was that teenager once and that’s how I became so passionate about this work.

Ok, let’s pull back the curtain on my own teenage years. Picture this…Teenage Jamie is almost 5 feet and 2 inches tall. She’s full of big dreams, is massively creative and super ambitious. Sounds great, right? But here’s the problem. She also used to wake up feeling anxious every single day and when you couple that with teenage angst and already being highly sensitive, it wasn’t always pretty…

Can you relate? Well, I guess the universe had bigger plans for me because I ended up spending my entire career working with teenagers and I am wildly passionate about that work!

Whether I was working with teens on shows or music, tutoring, or working with them in camp or school settings, I have worked with hundreds of teenagers and have realized that Teenage Jamie was definitely not alone!

I’ve seen so many teens with such awesome dreams and yet they often can’t figure out their own roadmap because they feel like the weight of the world rests on their shoulders.

But do you know what I’ve seen even more than this? I’ve seen moments in which they can be so courageous. I’ve seen them put on show-stopping performances. I’ve seen them deliver great speeches. I’ve seen them mobilize their networks and fill homeless shelters with holiday gifts and I’ve seen them hold space for their friends in their most difficult times.  Teenagers are amazing.

So is there a magic elixir to help teenagers live their best lives and become our future leaders? Yes. One word. SUPPORT.

Let’s be real for a minute-our world’s leadership could use a little shake-up, so let’s nurture these precious souls NOW!

How does Creative Coaching for Teens work?
The teens and I will meet on zoom every week for a 40 minute session. During each session, they will choose two doors of their life that they would like to “open.” During these sessions, they will explore their own inner landscape and continue to intentionally create the life that they want to live and design the way that they want to show up in the world. We will work together to dissect and evolve their lives so that they can feel strong, courageous, lit-up, confident, and supported.

What is behind Door #1?

My body is my temple

You would be amazed by the number of teens that have said to me, “I only slept four hours and only had chips for breakfast and I can’t figure out why I’m so sad.” When we open up this door, we will look at what kinds of practices and small shifts we can put in place to build greater health through food choices, exercise, sleep, relaxation and/or spirituality.

What is Behind Door #2?

Pursue thy passion

When you open up this door, I will ask you, “What are your big dreams”? Whether you want to get onto student council and need to prepare a speech, are thinking about college, or are already planning your career on Broadway, let’s work on this together. I know lots of people that have had very successful careers and I will help you build connections. We’ll keep in mind that you don’t have endless amounts of time or money, but we can be resourceful and take thoughtful steps. We can even rehearse for these big moments together.

What is Behind Door #3?

Relaxation and Pleasure

When you open up this door, we will explore how to make you feel your best. No one likes stress, but can we find a way to tango with it? Can we let it know that you are the driver and it is the passenger? We will also explore what pleasure looks like in your life. What are the things that make you happy and how can we add more of them to your life?

What is Behind Door #4?

Relationships

Have you ever spent time thinking about your soul tribe? Just like plants, relationships need some nurturing, so let’s think about the people you want to surround yourself with. Do you want to explore what it would look like to bring new friends into your life? Are there relationships that might need a little distance? Did you just have your heart broken? Let’s mend those broken hearts together so that you can surround yourself with the people you love.

What is behind Door #5?

Giving Back

All teens and humans should find ways to be a part of creating a better world. Whether that means spending some time doing a park clean-up, leading huge fundraisers, or filling a local food bank, this is so important for both the giver and the receiver. Giving back is easier than ever so let’s talk about what you are doing or work together towards your aspirations.

Please note: This process is a creative support and mentorship process and is not a clinical approach to mental health. While all of our coaches will be working with trained mental health professionals, please note that teens who are looking for medical diagnosis or therapy should contact a certified clinician. Our coaching practice is intended to create a safe and confidential space for our teens, but if a teen reveals anything that is life-threatening, we will immediately contact a parent/guardian.
